How do we spend our time together?
Monthly – 2nd Tuesday: 7-9 PM
Regular meeting of the entire membership is at the Presbyterian Church Gallery It begins with a meet/greet of new members and guests. Various short programs take place ranging from software demonstrations to how-to demonstrations, i.e. matting/framing photographs. The club has a monthly photo challenge among members and those photos are submitted to our website, and then compiled for presentation/discussion at this meeting. We have an education DVD library that we pull short presentations from on all facets of photography. Our main program is either a guest speaker or member speaker presenting on a specific topic in photography. Once every quarter, we dedicate the main program to photography education workshops such as editing software demonstrations, studio lighting techniques, matting and framing prints, exhibition preparation, DIY photography equipment, sensor cleaning, monitor calibration, etc.
Monthly – 4th Tuesday: 7-9 PM
This is a more hands-on type of training and held at the Historic Railpark & Train Museum. It is administered by our two Education Instructors. An education curriculum is presented at the beginning of the year and is executed by topic throughout the year. This night is a time for lecture, then Q & A on any equipment related issues. An assignment is given and the results are reviewed/discussed at the 3rd Saturday Session.
Monthly – 3rd Saturday Sessions: 9 AM – Noon+
The Location is announced and varies depending on the assignment. These sessions are administered by our two Education Instructors. There is a review of the 4th Tuesday photography assignment (composition, exposure triangle, lighting, etc.…) with a hands-on photo shoots on the topic. It is capped off with a review of the photographs taken and Q & A time.
All-day Photography Workshops
These happen twice per year (Spring/Fall) at the local Girl Scout Camp. The workshop includes indoor/outdoor studio set-ups for portrait/model shoot demonstrations. Our instructors in the field of Nature and Macro photography also take groups out on the nature trails. These events are open to the public for promotional/educational purposes.
Bowling Green Gallery Hop
A community art event (5 times per year) from 5-9 PM at various art galleries around town. Sunny 16 is partnered with the Historic Railpark & Train Museum to be their sole exhibitor of art for all Hop events. Gallery receptions are held to promote interest, both in our art and our organization.
These can happen at any time pending gallery space availability. Steady venues are the Kirby Library Gallery and The Presbyterian Church Gallery. Open to any club member who wishes to exhibit his/her work for a month+ time frame. Good promotion for our member artists and their work.
Community Photo Contests
2017’s contest is for city and county High School Students only, residing in Warren, Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan and Simpson counties. Students must be starting their Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior year in the Fall of 2017. The gallery exhibit and opening reception/awards ceremony will take place at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in September with the exhibit on display through October 31. We will have a panel of jurors to determine the winning photographs which will be printed, matted and framed for display by Sunny 16. Cash prizes! Join us!
A world-wide movement that happens annually, on the first Saturday in December. We partner with a local church in less fortunate areas of the community to provide portraits to those who cannot afford such otherwise. With the help of make-up artists, hair stylists, our team of dedicated photographers, editors, printers, framers. and other volunteers, we give back to our community by using what we have learned through photography education.
